New Scanner Eliminates Paperwork For Police
A new driver license scanner developed by L-Tron Corporation and deployed with New York state police last month has all but eliminated the need to do any paperwork for the officers patrolling our streets and highways.
The portable 4810LR scanner is connected directly to state traffic and criminal databases, making the issuing of citations a one-minute affair. The scanner is even able to auto-populate a citation template using the information of offenders' whose licenses have been scanned before.
Additionally, the 4810LR can digitally capture an offender's signature, and has a built-in digital camera. Police officials praised the new scanner for helping officers spend more time on the streets serving and protecting.
Apartment Seekers Hurt By Foreclosure History
Apartment rental prospects are looking dim for many former homeowners who have been victims of the nationwide sub-prime mortgage crisis.
Despite an ample number of available apartments to house those whose homes have been foreclosed on, the Associated Press reported on a number of families that are today living in hotels because apartment developers and landlords are spooked by their dismal credit history.
And those landlords willing to look past recent foreclosures and rent to these people anyway are often charging exaggerated rent rates to cover the perceived risk.
Elderly Woman Trapped Under Car For Two Days
A 91-year-old Milwaukee woman recently spent two days stuck under her car after crawling under the vehicle to find her lost keys, reported the Associated Press.
Betty Borowski dropped her keys, or so she thought, while getting into her car on the morning of June 29. Believing the keys to have fallen under the car, Betty got on her belly and began sliding under the car. Seems she got a little carried away, because her head became wedged under one of the axles.
Two days later, Betty's mailman noticed her letters beginning to pile up and decided to check around the perimeter of the house to determine if she was okay. That's when Betty was discovered, dehydrated and confused after spending 48 hours pinned to her driveway.
Oh, and her keys were found in the door of her car.
Japan Foreign Currency Reserves About-Face
Japan's foreign currency reserves unexpectedly rose last month for the first time in over three months, an occurrence that is certain to register on the Forex trading system of anyone trading a currency pair that includes the yen.
With the increase, Japan is now holding just over $1 trillion in foreign currency.
As previously mentioned, changes in the foreign currency reserves of any nation, but especially those of major economic powers like Japan, can have a sizable impact on the foreign currency exchange markets.
